One of Springfield’s most important positions will come available by election in March 2014. The Kearsarge Regional School District (KRSD) will hold an election for our representative to its Municipal Budget Committee (MBC).
The position is important to Springfield for a number of reasons:
- It directly supports the high quality of our children’s education,
- The quality of our school system is a reflection of our Town,
- School systems are used as a measure of desirability by home buyers, and
- This year, the Town of Springfield will have submitted more than $2,200,000 to KRSD. That is more than 60% of all the taxes we collect.
The MBC consists of representatives from Bradford, Sutton, Warner, New London, Wilmot and Newbury and Springfield. The MBC looks at all facets of the budget including salaries, benefits and facilities. Duties include approximately ten meetings, mostly on Tuesday evenings in the fall. More information is available by clicking here.
The election in March will be for one year. The position will be advertised by the School District in December and January and the filing period will be January at the KRSD Administrative Office at 114 Cougar Court in New London.
If you are interested in seeing the MBC in action, plan on attending the Deliberative Session on Saturday, January 11, 2014. For that matter, all Springfield residents would find that interesting and important.
